CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Kelsey absolutely did not expect what happened next, although perhaps she should have, because it made such perfect sense. If Lieutenant Saiyn had done the same thing to help her improve her shooting stance and her results with the brand-new weapon, quickly and without fuss, she would have felt grateful and not even batted an eyelid. Hell, she might have resorted to that same trick herself if she had been the one in charge of this training session. But as sexy Commander Shar herself stepped onto the practice pad, and moulded herself against her body from behind, Kelsey forgot to breathe. She nearly dropped the gun as well, and she struggled like mad to maintain her composure. For God’s sake, Kelsey! she almost exclaimed, and just managed not to make even more of a fool of herself. Shar seemed relaxed, and totally focused on the task at hand.

“Drop your leg back,” she reminded her. “Lean forward. Just a bit more… Good.”

Kelsey bit on her lower lip. Shar’s hands were on her hips. Her upper body was pressed tightly against her back, with one hard muscular thigh levelled against her leg. She was so damn hot… And in spite of herself, Kelsey suddenly had to lean back against her in order to keep her balance.

“Sorry,” she gasped.

“No problem,” Shar replied in that low, husky voice of hers.

Kelsey swallowed in response. Yes, she thought frantically; Problem. She had studied Akihanee physiology in great detail during her additional medical training. She knew all about the differences between them and humans in terms of core body temperature. She remembered a number of specific things about their female anatomy as well, but that really would not be any help at this precise moment, and probably just significantly increase her discomfort. The heat that she could feel coming off the commander’s skin was way too distracting; it was not anything that she had learnt in manuals, or measured with a diagnostic tool. This was not theory anymore; it felt like real practice, and she was not ready for it. Or am I…?

“Don’t tense up, all right?” came the next helpful tip.

Kelsey instantly clenched her teeth. She told herself not to be silly, and that it was just nerves, the pressure to perform well in front of an expert. She rationalised that the sudden spike in her heartbeat at feeling Shar behind her must be entirely due to the element of surprise involved in the gesture. Entirely... Kelsey tried to convince herself that her reaction was perfectly normal. She suppressed the notion that it was in any way, shape or form related to the fact that this was the Commander Shar whose chiselled frame she was leaning against…

“Don’t relax too much either,” her instructor advised.

“Uhm,” Kelsey hesitated. “I don’t think I can do this…”

“Sure, you can,” Sky replied in an encouraging tone. “Your position is perfect now.”

It was no longer about the shooting though, and how in the world was Shar not becoming aware of her reaction? I can’t focus when you’ve got your hands on me! Kelsey felt like blurting out.
